Flow Is Barbados’ Fastest Telecoms Provider, Says Ookla

Company Receives ‘Fastest Broadband Network’ And ‘Fastest Mobile Network’ Awards

The world leader in broadband testing and web-based network diagnostic applications has given Barbados’ leading telecommunications provider its stamp of approval.

According to independent analysts Ookla, owners and operators of the globally used speedtest.net online portal, Flow has both the fastest broadband and mobile services in the country based on raw data records for the past six months.

The Dublin, Ireland-based company awarded Flow the distinctions only two months after MSI Americas, an engineering consulting company based in St. Petersburg, Florida, declared Flow as having the fastest, strongest and most reliable mobile network in Barbados.

“We are thrilled once again that Flow has come out on top in independent testing. This is a major achievement not only for the company, but for our customers and partners who put faith in us each day to connect them with the wider world,” said Niall Sheehy, Managing Director, Flow Barbados.

“We’ve worked hard to bring best-in-class services to our customers by offering the fastest and most reliable network on an enhanced mobile-broadband experience. Ookla’s findings are further confirmation that our investment in the world’s first 100% Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network, along with the recent optimisation of our mobile 4G network, is resulting in a better overall experience for our customers. We will continue with our commitment and focus on innovation and exceptional customer experience with renewed vigour. Hats off to the entire Flow family,” added Sheehy.

Ookla’s software and methodologies are widely viewed as the industry standard for accuracy, popularity, ease of use and the subsequent development of statistical data.

The company’s solutions have also been adopted by nearly every Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the world and have been translated into over thirty languages for use by thousands of small businesses, governments, universities and major media organisations such as AT&T, BBC, Cisco, Comcast, FCC, Reuters, Time Warner, Verizon, Vodafone and Vonage.

Carlo Alloni, EVP Technology and Group CTIO, Cable & Wireless Communications, offered his congratulations to the Barbados team.

“Over three million people a day use Ookla software, making the company the dominant leader in broadband connection testing. Its speed test intelligence is also the most comprehensive database of crowdsourced connection test results that offers an unparalleled resource to understand real-time global network performance. To receive an endorsement from them is clear proof that Flow is ahead of the pack in Barbados,” he said.

Earlier this year, MSI Americas conducted an extensive and comprehensive Benchmarking and Drive Test reviewing the performance of the two local networks.

Flow came out on top in almost every category, leading in RF Coverage and Capacity with 21% more samples with excellent coverage when compared to Digicel, along with 21% more samples of excellent 4G Throughput and 25% better average speeds and higher peak speeds for data downloads.
