Pacific Caribbean Cable System (PCCS)
C&W Networks one of the largest telecommunications service providers in the Caribbean, announced today that Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks (ASN) has completed the commissioning of the Pacific Caribbean Cable System (PCCS). The 6000km submarine cable connects Ecuador, Panama, Colombia, Aruba, Curacao Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico then terminates in Jacksonville, Florida, USA.
PCCS is owned by a group of 5 major telecommunications operators consisting of Cable & Wireless Communications, Setar, Telconet, Telefonica Global Solutions and United Telecommunication Services. “This is a very exciting development for the region as it further strengthens and expands the region’s telecom infrastructure” Says Paul Scott President of C&W Networks.
With an ultimate design capacity of 80 Terabits-per-second, the PCCS submarine network dramatically boosts connectivity and substantially increases the availability of broadband services. PCCS is C&W Networks fourth international submarine cable landing in the USA, and its third in Florida. This new system further enhances C&W Networks ongoing commitment for ecosystem diversity and industry leading network resiliency. PCCS is a state of the art, Multi-100 per second network with enormous scalability. “We are very excited to be part of this new submarine cable system. It allows us to provide our carrier customers more traffic routing possibilities, ensuring complete geo-route diversity to the U.S. East Coast. Besides, additional ring diversity, PCCS also provides a new, geographically diverse cable landing in the US at Jacksonville as an added layer of redundancy and network interconnection” says Scott.
